State Dismisses Charges in High-Profile Galion Murder Case

A resolution has finally been reached in the high-profile trials of a Crawford County couple accused of kidnapping and murdering a 68-year-old man in September 2015. After filing eight pretrial motions in both the trials Frederick Saunders, Jr., and his wife, Marla Saunders, including motions to suppress, dismiss, and motions challenging the state’s experts, Attorney Adam Stone of The Stone Law Firm, LTD has successfully secured the dismissal of both aggravated murder charges against both defendants, sparing them from the possible sentence of life imprisonment without parole. This is the second greatest penalty in Ohio following capital punishment.

Frederick Saunders, Jr., pleaded guilty to manslaughter and kidnapping in exchange for a dismissal of the charges of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, and obstruction of justice. In the case of Marla, kidnapping and aggravated murder were dismissed in exchange for a guilty plea of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice.

The Turning Point

The turning point in the trial of both defendants came when the prosecution authorized the cremation of the body of the alleged victim, Saunders, Jr.’s father, before the defense had a chance to perform its own examination despite evidence suggesting that the deceased’s death may have been due to natural causes. During the trial, Attorney Stone was even held in contempt of court at one point due to his outrage over this injustice by making statements maintaining his clients’ innocence in violation of a gag order.

This massive victory further bolsters The Stone Law Firm, LTD’s extensive history of success at trial, having defended hundreds of clients throughout our firm’s lengthy practice. Having earned an Avvo Clients’ Choice Award and an “Excellent” Avvo Rating for our tenacious and results-driven counsel, we have established ourselves as one of the most well-known and trusted firms in the state of Ohio and show no signs of slowing down.
