Attorney Adam Stone of The Stone Law Firm, LTD will represent a 41-year-old
Mansfield woman accused of fraudulently claiming to be a highly-decorated
combat veteran with breast cancer to receive GoFundMe donations. According
to a federal indictment, the defendant allegedly misled a total of 32
people into donating a total of $3,515 to help her afford experimental
life-saving surgery, with one person donating as much as $1,000.
Prosecutors have also alleged that the defendant attempted to prove her
veteran status by falsifying a government document showing that she was
discharged from active duty service. If convicted of federal wire fraud,
the defendant could face up to 20 years in prison.
The defendant is well known throughout Mansfield for her charitable work
for veterans through her organization Mission Possible. The organization
provides meals to veterans and is in the process of creating a shelter
for homeless veterans.
