Attorney Stone Defends Man Against Child Rape Charges

by | Jul 21, 2017 | In the News

Martin Nolen, a 25-year-old man from Bucyrus, was recently charged in Crawford County Municipal Court with first-degree rape of a 7-year-old, a felony in Ohio. His bond is currently set at $350,000, and he could face a life sentence without the possibility of parole if convicted. Attorney Adam Stone defended Nolen’s case in common pleas court during his initial appearance, making this his fourth court appointment to a major sex offense in Crawford and Wyandot Counties. Attorney Stone has retained 3 open sex offense cases throughout Ohio, all of which deal with child victims and the defense of suggestibility.

Nolen appeared via video conference in June of this year, his family sitting behind criminal defense Attorney Stone in a show of support while Judge Shane Leuthold read the charges. The allegations include Nolen allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a child victim on June 9. Due to the drastic age difference, the maximum sentence is life imprisonment without the chance of parole.

The 7-year-old victim’s statements, read by the assistant prosecutor, claimed Nolen touched the child in a “bad spot,” and also included descriptions of the incident. However, Attorney Stone argued that the child’s age could make such statements highly suggestible, and should not hold too much weight.

Martin Nolen is scheduled to reappear in court on July 3 for a preliminary hearing, where Judge Leuthold will reconsider the current bond. To learn more about Nolen’s case, click here.
