Crawford County Criminal Defense Attorney Adam Stone of Eyer Stone, LTD has set his sights on a trial winning streak for 2018. He has already started off on track after securing a victory in both criminal defense cases managed by his law firm that went to court this year.
The first case – State v. Charles Pryer, Wyandot County – began when Mr. Pryer was arrested and charged with fourth degree felony criminal trespass. Although trespassing is a property crime generally associated with limited penalties, this particular charge could have sentenced Mr. Pryer to 18 months in prison if convicted. Realizing the prosecution did not have an impressive case against his client, Adam had no qualms to take the case to trial. After just over an hour of deliberation, the jury announced they had found him not guilty of felony criminal trespassing and the lesser included misdemeanor form of criminal trespass.
The second case – State v. Cristian Brown (juvenile bindover), Seneca County – also had considerably high-stakes. Adam’s client had been charged with murder and his future was immediately uncertain. Eyer Stone, LTD approached the situation delicately, knowing that a single wrong word in an ongoing murder case could spell disaster for the defendant. Throughout several months used to try to negotiate the case, Mr. Brown always and staunchly upheld his innocence. When the case was finally taken to trial, it only lasted a day. Perhaps to the prosecution’s surprise but not to Attorney Stone, the jury came back with a not guilty verdict, exonerating a man who was staring down a harrowing set of consequences if he had been convicted.
